While browsing chrome for android something downloaded without permission

I had no choice; it was just there! My normal procedure is to click on updates in the piriform website which then brings me to FileHippo for the download. I don't really know on which site I actually was given the chrome download.

Unlike some other people I was able to uninstall chrome without substantially changing my registry to the point where there were Operating system problems. But many people have complained that uninstalling the unwanted browser has done a job on their computers. No idea. I didn't know they did before I read your thread. Have you ever tried Chrome? It's actually a good browser.

I agree with all bumper7 said about how good Avast is, and I too have been recommending it to everyone. But installing Chrome without specific permission is iniquitous, especially as uninstalling Chrome caused me problems with links not working in Outlook emails and Word documents - apparently that's common, and Microsoft now have a fix for it.
